Wow… here we go again – back across the pond with Greg and Monica! Could we possibly get good weather again and have way too much fun??? ABSOLUTELY!
Traveling standby is always a treat, we actually got to sit together on the way to Dulles and then had middle seats across the pond, but hey we got seats and got there as scheudled. Not bad for free! Quite the adventure renting a car and not having to get extra insurance, guess it’s just one of those things you have to accept over here. Made it to St. Andrews after having to stop at McDonald’s to get wifi and figure out how to make the phone work… went straight to The Dunvegan for a pint and to unpack and relax until Greg and Monica met us for dinner. What a glorious night it was – perfect sunset and of course revisiting the bridge where he surprised me 6 years ago…our adventures continue to amaze me!
Round 1 was at the Castle Course and our caddies were Soarcha and Alan. What a piece of property that David McLay Kidd developed… Amazing weather and a fun hike! We enjoyed dinner at One Under Pub – the only place that wasn’t playing the Champions League Final game with Real Madrid and Liverpool. After dinner we decided to walk around town and check out some pubs! The Rule was quite entertaining and we found a little hole in the wall place with live music that was great! The Scots enjoy their live entertainment. We closed down the Dunvegan and had a short night…
Round 2 was at Kingsbarns with our young caddies Campbell and Mathew. It was a little chilly and overcast most of the day. The sun finally came out on #18 and we enjoyed chatting to the boys about all the trouble kids get into in Scotland! We wandered around St. Andrews trying to find a spot for dinner and got lucky at The Adamson.
Round 3 was at Carnoustie with our caddies Iain, Ian and Dave. We couldn’t have played on a more perfect day! No wind and about 65 degrees. Good thing the Open Championship wasn’t taking place in condition like that – those guys would shoot nothing out there! Chris hit every fairway and 15 greens – dominated the rest of us! We enjoyed dinner at Jigger Inn back in St. Andrews after golf!
Round 4 was at The Old Course with our favorite caddy Soarcha and John. Another beautiful day on the links. This track never disappoints, just because it’s the home of golf. We enjoyed hearing the stories about how golf started with sheppards hitting rocks with their crooks and how bunkers got formed because sheep were huddling together to stay dry and out of the elements. Even though we were rushed around the golf course, we enjoyed our time and had some great laughs with all the bunkers we hit into. There were some crazy up and downs and of course lots of putts! We enjoyed dinner at Little Italy on our last night in St. Andrews.
We must pack our bags and head to North Berwick for 4 more rounds of golf. Our stay at the Dunvegan was incredible and we can’t wait to come back and visit John, Rachel and Ruby…
